Nothing Goes to Waste
Not food. Not people. Not potential.
We believe communities thrive when ordinary people take extraordinary responsibility for each other.
Caring for others reveals who we are and what we’re capable of. We believe everyone has something to give—and the more we show up, the more we grow.
Gratibility gives people like us a way to show up—together—and build a stronger, more connected community.
Food rescued. People empowered. Community, on purpose.
Our Why
People want to help.
People want to belong.
People want to matter.
Gratibility connects the dots.
Our community is built through action. The people who lean in, learn, and contribute discover that they get far more back than they ever expected.
Together, we turn generosity into action, strangers into teammates, and everyday moments into opportunities for people to care for one another.
Bringing Our Why To Life
This isn’t a charity line. It’s a community in motion.
Here’s how our WHY shows up in real life:
Connection
Volunteers work shoulder-to-shoulder, turning strangers into teammates and shifts into real friendships.
Diversity
We reflect the cultural richness of South King County. Everyone belongs. Everyone contributes. Everyone gets seen.
Leadership
Through our mentor network, volunteers don’t just “help out”—they learn logistics, communication, teamwork, and real community leadership.
Education
We learn by doing. Gratibility helps people connect what they see in the news to what’s happening on their street, so global food issues actually make sense locally.
We ask a lot of our volunteers—and we give a lot back. Gratibility is a place where effort turns into growth, responsibility becomes leadership, and excellent people become even better.
Nothing goes to waste — not even the effort you put in.
What We Do
We believe stronger communities are built by people who show up. Our work isn’t passive. It thrives because people step up, contribute, and hold themselves to the standard our community deserves. Everything we do makes it easier for neighbors and organizations to take responsibility for one another, reduce waste, and ensure that nothing—and no one—is left behind.
Food Rescue & Redistribution
We rescue high-quality surplus food and goods from partners like Costco and redirect them quickly into the community—to families, shelters, outreach groups, and volunteers.
Less waste. More nourishment. Faster response.
The Pop-Up Food Market Experiment
Our weekly Pop-Up Food Market is a live experiment in what happens when you treat food access like a community collaboration instead of a hand-out line.
Part market, part block party, part logistics lab, these public events run on teamwork, effort, and intention. Every volunteer plays a part, and the experience is shaped by what each person brings to it.
A small idea with big impact: people helping people, right where they live.
Network Partner Support
Gratibility serves as a supplemental community resource hub, storing and distributing items for organizations like:
- Highline Area Food Bank
- Des Moines Area Food Bank
- Hospitality House
We help local nonprofit partners do more by helping address two common challenges: storage space and unpredictable donation timing.
Nothing sits unused.
Nothing goes to waste.
Mattress & Essential Goods Program
Shelters often don’t know when a client will secure housing — or when a mattress will be donated.
Gratibility fills that gap by storing mattresses and essentials so they’re ready exactly when needed, giving families a dignified start in new housing.
Dignity shouldn’t wait.
And no opportunity to help should ever go to waste.
Simple ideas, big impact — all powered by a community that cares.
Why We Show Up
People are searching for connection, community, and purpose.
Families are navigating rising costs and shrinking food programs.
Nonprofits are stretched thin and running out of space.
Gratibility attracts people who want to contribute, learn, and grow. Our community works because the people in it take responsibility—for each other, for the mission, and for themselves.
We’re building a community for people who show up. If you believe in taking responsibility for each other—by volunteering, partnering, donating, or even just staying connected—you belong with us.
Join Our Community
Gratibility is a community for people who show up. However you join us—through volunteering, donating, partnering, or following—you help build the kind of world we all want to live in.
If you believe neighbors should lift neighbors—and you’re willing to put your hands, heart, and effort into something meaningful—you’ll thrive here.
